NEW TO INDIVIDUAL EVENTS

THREE NEW RULES FOR ALL MUSICAL THEATRE EVENTS

1.      A new rule for ALL musical theatre events:  “No medleys, screen plays, or Vegas Style reviews are allowed.”

2.      Each musical theatre event is allowed up to one accompanist per event.  Any other musical instrument played will be counted as performers within the number allowed in the event.

3.      A Student accompanist at State must be fully registered; an adult accompanist at State must be registered as a chaperone or attend with a day pass.  A student who only accompanies an event at Districts that proceeds to State may attend State as a fully registered student.

TWO NEW RULES FOR COSTUME DESIGN

1.      This old rule that read  “Each design must be executed in full color on a 10" x 15" white display board.”  is now replaced by the following new rule: “Each design must be executed in full color AND displayed on a 10”x15” board.”  This rule change allows you to use watercolor paper that will THEN be mounted on the board.

2.      Computer assisted design is acceptable.

NEW RULES FOR ALL DESIGN CATEGORIES

All technical events at state will be scheduled as single events.  We will no longer block all of the tech IE events by time.  All like titles will be scheduled near each other but not as part of a block.

TWO NEW RULES IN PLAYWRITING:

1.      The guidelines for the Character List page have been rewritten to read: "The third page of the script will be the CHARACTER PAGE, including a list of the characters in order of appearance with a 10 word or less description of each character"

2.      Rule #15 that read, “The student cannot submit a play that has been previously adjudicated by Florida State Thespians” has been eliminated.

3.      Playwriting at the State Festival will now receive ratings.
